world meets modern-day nanay

ModernMomsi grew up in the traditional extended Filipino family with lola’s, inang’s, tiyang’s, ate’s, ite’s and ditse’s altogether in one household. back in the time when there was no bantay bata hotline, and discipline was in the form of bamboo sticks, rubber slippers and used sacks.

i am a parent now. a proud mother to two impossible little boys. and now i realize that i owe too much to my traditional upbringing that i prefer to be called “nanay” instead of “mommy”.

the modern world is much too different from what it used to be. in a fast-paced society where earning and spending money seem to be at the core of everyday living, how can this “nanay” cope?
